Mining, farming and fishing shaped St Ives, with fishing being the dominant force in the 19th century with over 400 boats involved in pilchard fishing. St Ives is famous for its picturesque harbour, cobbled streets and artist community.
During your stay you can walk around the tiny streets, visiting the many interesting shops, craft and art galleries, including the famous 'Tate Gallery' or just relax on one of our many beaches or swim in the crystal clear sea.
In the evening enjoy investigating the many superb fresh sea-food restaurants, or sample the local ale in one of the many quaint pubs that abound, whatever you choose you will be spoilt for choice.
For those wishing to explore further afield, the whole of West Cornwall is within only a short drive. Popular destinations include, the Lizard Peninsula with its many little coves and beaches, Penzance (day trips can be made to the Isles of Scilly by boat), or by air from Land's End. Don't forget the Cathedral City of Truro, the County Town, with many small independent shops to explore. All these places are within a half hours drive at the most.
